The order of these commandments in Codex Vaticanus differs from Hebrew, the sixth being placed after the seventh and eighth, so that, the sixth, seventh and eighth become the eighth, sixth and seventh respectively, taking the order seventh, eighth and sixth. But Codex Alexandrinus, Complutensian (by Cardinal Ximenes) and Aldine editions agree with the Hebrew.

Next, it is seen that the Hebrew in Deuteronomy joins them with וְ “and”, and which is not rendered in the Septuagint where they are now found in the same order as the Hebrew of both Exodus and Deuteronomy. We should say, then, that Matthew has followed the Hebrew of Exodus and not of Deuteronomy agreeing, however, with the Septuagint of Deuteronomy and with that of Exodus also, in other than the Vaticanus manuscript.
